Group Impetus is one of the main manufacturers and distributors of underwear [first and second layer] in the world.

Impetus was formed in 1973 in the small town of Apúlia, Esposende (Portugal). Created by Maria Emília and Alberto Figueiredo the company began operations with six people only.

The wish of this couple to start a business together materialized right after the wedding. Everything began with a loan from the bank. Sharing a different perspective Impetus, whose founders still hold the position of Directors, focused since the beginning on the foreign markets alone, ensuring all the stages in the process, from sewing to packaging and expedition.

Thanks to the quality of its products the company conquered new clients and markets over the years and is now a reference in this sector.

The group is still run by the first generation but relies now also on their sons who now manage also the company.

With an annual production of around 5.000.000 items, Impetus employs more than 880 workers in its different industrial units from weaving, dying, printing and finishing, cutting sewing and packaging.

100% of Group Impetus value chain lies in Portugal in three production units. The company focuses on ensuring good labour conditions and on meeting ecologic and social criteria which proved decisive to obtain SA8000 certification. To operate consciously and to take full responsibility for its workers is particularly important for this Group.

This approach is there since the beginning, from the purchase of raw materials and through the whole manufacturing chain up until the final product. Impetus is certified by BlueSign and complies with the recommendations at to the elimination of harmful substances during the production process, thereby ensuring environmental-friendly and safe manufacturing.
